Two Southampton schools are to get a new executive head teacher.

Phil Humphreys will take on the role, overseeing both Oasis Mayfield and Lord's Hill Academies.

Previously principal at Mayfield he will now be based mainly at Lord’s Hill with Claire Taylor now associate principal at Mayfield.

Oasis Lord’s Hill principal Ian Golding will still be employed by the educational trust but will be seconded to Parkfield School in Bournemouth.

Mr Golding's temporary placement, which will run for just over 12 months, is part of Oasis' aim to support neighbouring schools.

In 2015 Ofsted said Parkfield "required improvement" and safety concerns have also been raised as the school moves to a new site at Bournemouth Airport.

Oasis’ south west director Matt Butler said: “This is an exciting moment for Oasis’s secondary academies in Southampton as we formalise the partnerships that already exist between them. Long in the planning, we are confident that this change will enable both schools to better support one another to the benefit of all of our young people.”

“I am delighted to announce that we have appointed Mr Humphreys to executive principal to oversee this further collaboration. He is a school leader with considerable experience who has achieved a great deal in a short time at Oasis Academy Mayfield, and I know he is looking forward to working much more closely with Oasis Academy Lord’s Hill going forward.”

“As a systems leader Oasis is keen to support other schools and the broader education sector where we can, while developing our existing leaders. Mr Golding is a skilled and knowledgeable principal who will have an immediately positive impact at Parkfield School. We look forward to welcoming him back with all his additional experience in a year’s time.”

A spokesperson for Oasis said he expected the executive head teacher’s salary to be around £100,000.
