THE centre of Winchester was disrupted this afternoon following the closure of a major road after a man barricaded himself inside a property.
Trained police negotiators spoke with the man who threatened to harm himself.
At 2.06pm officers closed City Road in Winchester while they dealt with the incident.
The man left the house of his own accord and at 3.05pm the road was re-opened.
An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault.
Inspector Alastair Hibberd, said: “We would like to thank members of the public for their patience while we closed the road to deal with this incident.”
A police spokeswoman said earlier: “There’s a domestic incident we are dealing with. A man is barricaded inside his home and police negotiators are with him."
