A man is in hospital in serious condition after being attacked 'with a brick' in Southampton this afternoon.
A cordon was formed around the outside of the building of flats in Wavell Road, Bitterne.
One resident was told that a 26-year-old man was hit by a brick in the attack that involved three other men.
The man, who has not been identified, has been taken to Southampton hospital in a serious condition.
A resident who did not wish to be named said he heard the argument from round the corner when walking his dog.
He said: "There were a lot of people surrounding him and trying to talk to him. I could see blood round the back of his head.
"I was walking my dog round the corner at about 4 o'clock and I heard an argument. I came round to Wavell road and I could just see all of these people stood there."
Other residents believe there were three men who ran into Bitterne precinct, while the victim was left unconscious with a serious head injury.
He is now being treated at Southampton General Hospital and is in a serious condition.
One resident, who did not wished to be named, said: "I hope the cowards are caught."
He added that the incident has made him feel unsafe.
Police are appealing for any witness to call 101.
