HAMPSHIRE firefighters added extra sparkle to the cars of residents to fundraise.

The Eastleigh crew grabbed buckets and sponges for a charity car wash event last Saturday.

More than 100 cars were cleaned during the day as part of an initiative run every year in fire stations across the country to support The Fire Fighters Charity.

Mike Mortimore, firefighter from the Eastleigh green watch team, said: “It was a big success. We are happy with how it went. Everyone was interested at the event. Fire engines were there and children looked at them.”

This year the Eastleigh crew also supported the local children’s charity Simon Says and some charity members helped firefighters at the event.

“We are exhausted but it’s worth doing it”, Mr Mortimore said.

Money will be used to provide rehabilitation services to injured fire fighters and their families.

This is one of the biggest fundraising events run by firefighters and started decades ago.

The Fire Fighters Charity is also organising other fundraising events throughout the year, such as cycling and open days.
