IT HAS been wowing the crowds for more than half a century.

Roverang is a dance and music extravaganza staged at the Nuffield Theatre, Southampton, by more than 130 members of Scout and Guide groups from across the city.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the annual spectacle.

With just four weeks to go to this year's show Roverang celebrated its diamond jubilee by returning to Sholing Technology College, where it was first held in 1956.

The celebrations began with an afternoon tea attended by past and present cast members, including a few from the original production.

A choir performed songs from each of the past six decades. Other highlights included an opportunity to examine archive material, including telegrams from Ralph Reader, who staged the original Gang Show.

The tea was followed by a reunion party at Peartree Church Hall.

Sue Parker, producer of the Roverang shows held in 2013, 2014 and 2015, said: "The atmosphere was amazing.

"It was lovely to see so many people come together and share their memories of Roverang. Everyone had a fantastic time and moved from one event to the other."

This year's event will be held on April 18-22 with shows every evening, plus a Saturday matinee.
