A HUNT is underway for a man who police believe may hold vital clues to solving the mystery of how a woman fell from a Southampton flat.

Officers believe the man could hold the key to solving the puzzle of what happened a month into the investigation.

Police say the man is thought to have links with Poland and London and was seen in the area at the time of the horrific incident, which happened in Salisbury Street on February 11.

A woman in her 20s was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries after she plunged from the third-story flat in at around 10.45am.

Police said she is still in hospital in a serious but stable condition more than a month on from the traumatic ordeal.

Now, officers are turning their attention to tracking down the man.

Detective Sergeant Bryan Carter appeal fotr anyone who knows that man to come forward.

He said: “We would like to identify this man to help us with the investigation into what happened.

“We believe this man could help us understand the circumstances surrounding this incident and we would like to speak with him as part of this investigation and eliminate him from our enquiries.

“We believe this man has links to Southampton, London, and Poland.”

The woman was found outside of the flat by officers who rushed to the scene.

A section of the road was cordoned off as paramedics fought to keep the woman alive, and shortly afterwards, police launched an appeal for witnesses.

Two people were arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice in the aftermath of the incident..

The man and woman, both aged 38, were released on bail until April 24.

Residents of nearby communities also spoke of their shock after the devastating fall.

Tracey Luff, landlady at The Lion pub in Bedford Place, spoke to the Echo shortly after the incident and said she saw the woman in the street being treated by police officers.

She said: “She must have fallen from one of the flats she was in the road underneath the flats.

“I am very shocked, I hope she is okay and she pulls through.”
