Two Hampshire teenagers walked to Southampton from Portchester in aid of the national kidney patients association.

Walking 15.4 miles in seven hours, Chelsea Murray and Emily Francis, both 16, completed the challenge in aid of the association, hoping to raise £1,500.

Chelsea’s dad Michael, 52, is on dialysis, and uses the association who offer support and advice for those with kidney problems.

Chelsea, from St Mary’s, said: “I’ve always wanted to do the walk and I wanted to get a charity involved. It seemed only right for us to try and raise money for this organisation. “My dad was there at every mile marker. When it got tough, we knew he’d be there to help us, driving from one stop to the next.”

Michael said: “I’m so proud of the two of them, it’s an incredible achievement. They were on their feet for seven hours. I would stop and one marker, and when I thought they might be struggling, we gave them so food and water and they soldiered on.”

The two, who both attend St Anne’s school in Southampton, have raised almost £300 towards their target. To donate, visit justgiving.com/fundraising/Chelsea-Murray1.
