AN OLYMPIC champion has been appointed honorary ambassador for a Hampshire charity.

Nick Skelton CBE, left, is the latest honorary ambassador for the disabled people’s charity Revitalise, which runs the Netley Waterside House respite holiday centre.

Mr Skelton recovered from a broken neck, sustained in 2000, to win individual gold at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games for show jumping.

Now his experience and career has inspired the Revitalise team and Chris Simmonds, Revitalise chief executive said: “What really stood out for us was his amazing recovery from a broken neck which could very easily have ended his career.

“For this indomitable spirit and all the good work he does behind the scenes for the rehabilitation of injured equestrians, we felt Nick was a really obvious choice for us.”

Nick joins team GB Paralympians and Boccia medallists Dan Bentley and David Smith MBE as an honorary ambassador of Revitalise.

He said: “I really hope my own experience has given me some valuable insights which will prove useful to Revitalise. I’m looking forward to helping the charity continue its work and raise its public profile.”
