He was the centre of attention after all consuming piegate.

Now, after leaving Sutton United in a media storm, Totton-based goalkeeper Wayne Shaw has landed himself a new job.

After resigning from the club after he ate a pie on live TV against Arsenal in the FA Cup in February, he now earns his keep as a food taster at Mexican restaurant chain Chimichanga.

He shot to fame after one bookmaker had Shaw at 8/1 odds to eat the pie live on TV. The FA then launched a probe into a possible breach of the rules on betting.

The 46-year-old completed the chain’s Tombstone challenge in 17 minutes, finishing off ribs, chicken wings, chilli con carne, chips, coleslaw and beans as part of his new position. He was one of only full-time staff at Gander Green Lane for 18 months before resigning from his former club.

He admitted after the game that he knew a bookmaker was offering odds on him being seen eating during the televised fifth-round meeting with the Gunners.

Sutton manager Paul Doswell, Shaw's friend for more than 30 years said at the time: "It's an honest mistake. Wayne's a lovely man but he's been swept along with things and been ill-advised.

"He has said that he fully understand the club's position regarding the matter."

Shaw responded to the criticism on his Twitter account, claiming he was eating a pasty rather than a pie.

He was spotted back at former club Eastleigh after piegate, but has been out of football since.
