A MAN who died in late-night crash between a car and a pony and trap in Bursledon has been named.
William Gaskin, 33, from Worplesdon, Guildford, was travelling in the trap and suffered life-threatening injuries in the collision with a Volkswagen Bora on Sunday.
He was rushed to Southampton General Hospital but died a short time later.
Both vehicles were travelling along Portsmouth Road heading towards Hamble when the crash occurred at 11.30pm.
The driver of the Volkswagen Bora was uninjured.
Following the incident, a 28-year-old man from Southampton was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been bailed until July 26.
Officers from the Hampshire Constabulary’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit want to speak to anyone who may have seen the incident or either vehicle prior to the collision.
