HIS skills have helped illuminate a Southampton club for partying revellers for years.

Now John Lightfoot who works at Oceana in Southampton has lit up the finals of the Light Technician of the Year competition.

The competition is organised by The Deltic Group, which is the UK’s largest operator of late night bars and clubs.

John who has worked at Oceana for four years, and fellow finalists, Ben Todman from Fiction Swansea, Graham Brown of Evoque Preston and Nickos Koulouris of PRYZM Birmingham, put together a pre-programmed light show of three minutes duration set to a sound track.

They were judged on the use of a video wall and the vast array of lighting that had been erected on stage by SF Leisure. Later they performed a live freestyle show with each competitor given 20 minutes to wow the crowd and judges with their skills.

His creativity and technical skills landed him a trophy, equipment from sponsors Chauvet and a VIP trip to an international lighting and technical equipment trade show in Frankfurt.

Mr Lightfoot said:“It is the third year the competition has been held and the standard was very high. I was really pleased to win because I have worked for the company for a long time and have been involved in different projects. It was nice to get recognition for doing a good job.”
