A WOMAN was injured after a thief knocked into her while running away when he stole a phone.
The dramatic incident happened in Winchester High Street.
The thief had stolen a phone from the Vodafone shop, and was chased by a customer when he ran into two market stalls, and then knocked over a woman as he tried to escape his pursuer.
The woman, who is in her 60s, suffered a leg injury in the incident, which happened at around 3pm on Sunday.
A witness said: “I witnessed two men running down the high street and heard a loud crash at around 3pm.
"Witnesses told me that a man had tried to steal a phone from Vodafone and took off, running into two stalls and smashing £50 worth of items on one stall.
“He then knocked over a woman, who was taken away in an ambulance.”
A spokesman for Hampshire Constabulary said: “It appears that a customer in the Vodafone shop chased a man who had taken an iPhone.
"He dropped the phone when he ran into a woman in her late 60s in the High Street.
"She sustained a leg injury.”
Police are still investigating the incident and no arrests have yet been made.
