BASHLEY’S four-game winning streak ground to a halt with a 1-0 Sydenhams Premier defeat at Brockenhurst.

A swirling wind ensured the New Forest derby wasn’t much of a spectacle and young Bash goalkeeper Joe Coombes was left to rue the conditions as the game started with a bang.

Coombes, in for the injured Joe Prodomo, crashed into a goalpost while trying to claim a wind-driven high ball and the sickening thud momentarily silenced the 200-plus crowd.

Fortunately Coombs was able to continue, but there was little he could do in the 38th minute when Ryan Long took advantage of Bashley’s inability to clear their lines, plundering the only goal of the game.

Bash tonight (Tuesday, 7.45) host Alresford Town who staged a remarkable fightback to beat Whitchurch United 3-2 at Arlebury Park.

With 12 minutes to go, the Magpies were 2-0 down, trailing to second-half strikes from Jam Boys' debutant Jason Silver – signed from Winchester City – and Danny Phillips.

But fifth-placed Alresford hit back with interest as Tom Sands, John Cole and match-winner Craig Harding dramatically turned the game on its head.

Whitchurch have confirmed they are in talks with Southern League neighbours Basingstoke Town about a possible long-term groundshare at Longmeadow.

A club statement said: “We are exploring the possibility of installing a top-grade 3G pitch, which will enable us to make greater usage of our current facilities.

“Improved spectator facilities will also be required to meet Southern League ground grading requirements.”

STAND-IN boss Ian Saunders guided AFC Portchester to a 3-0 win over Team Solent at the Blanchard Wells Stadium.

It was the Royals’ third successive clean sheet since former Winchester City boss Saunders was appointed assistant to manager Graham Rix, who is currently unavailable.

Andy Todd capped a man-of-the-match performance by bagging a brace. Miles Everett was also on target in the Sydenhams Premier clash.

FORMER Eastleigh and AFC Totton defender Ross Bottomley set Lymington Town on their way to a 3-0 Sydenhams Premier win at Andover.

With just four minutes gone at the Portway Stadium, the big man was in the right place at the right time to volley home after a cross from the right had been headed back across goal.

Andover’s troubles doubled when Adam Grange was carried off with a serious-looking knee injury and Lymington striker Sam House deepened their misery with a second-half brace.

NEWPORT IoW fell to their first home defeat since early January, floored 2-1 by a late winner from Fareham Town’s Simon Woods.

The Islanders had taken a first-minute lead through Joe Butcher, only for Curt Robbins to level with a 35th-minute penalty awarded when Ash Tattersall was upended.

Newport pushed defender Scott Sampson into attack to try and win the game, but Woods exploited the space to slot the winner past advancing 'keeper Gary Streeter.
