EVER since Hannah Walker was six, she has made up stories and created magical worlds.

How many children of that age could claim they had read all the Harry Potter books in just one summer holiday?

The inspiration of J K Rowling’s wizarding series has paid off for the Hampshire youngster who had her first book published.

The book, titled Mind Control, is about a girl called Katie, who is 11 years old. She is accepted into boarding school and when she boards the train she makes a strange discovery – she is a vampire. With her new friends she battles against evil forces that threaten to engulf her.

Hannah, of Harlequin Grove, Fareham, always has a notebook under her arm and writing.

The 16-year old attends Barton Peveril College in Eastleigh where she is studying for A-levels in film studies, performing arts and Japanese. Hannah wants to work in the film industry when she is older.

Writing is Hannah’s hobby. She sees it as a way of relaxing from the stress of the GCSE exams looming over her.

Katie is based on Hannah herself, her mother is a secretary, as is Hannah’s mum Jenny, and many of her friends crop up in the book.

“When Hannah was writing the book her friends would keep up every chapter to see what would happen,’’ said Jenny.

Mind Control is dedicated to Hannah’s grandmother, Tricia Carter, who was Hannah’s number one fan, but died before they knew Hannah’s book was going to be published.

Hannah first came up with the idea when she was 10. Her mother described the process of writing it as “very self-critical” and recalls Hannah scrapping “great chunks of the book” before she was happy with it.

She bought the book into school to show her librarian, Mrs Steele, to give her some thoughts. She suggested sending it to a publisher.

Hannah did just that, only expecting to receive some constructive criticism but was surprised when the company, Olympia Publications, said it wanted to publish it.

The book is available on Amazon and bookshops such as Waterstone’s.

Hannah, has written outlines for five more books following Mind Control and she is halfway through the next one.
