IT'S not long now until half term and you're sure to want to take part in some activities to celebrate.

So here's a selection of events in and around Southampton that are being held this weekend.

From walks to theatre performances, there's a lot of variety out there.

1. Take in Shakespeare plays with a different at Hanger Farm in Totton. The venue is hosting Shakespeare Play in a Day, which features two competing teams of actors rehearsing, preparing and performing two randomly-assigned plays in just 24 hours. The event is on Saturday at 7.30pm.

2. Learn about the infamous story of the Titantic with First Class Stewardess Violet Jessop. She will invite attendees to explore the liner's history and afterwards there will be tea and scones. SeaCity Museum in Southampton hosts the event at 2pm on Sunday.

3. Go on a Cadbury Egg Hunt at Mottisfont on Saturday. Spring has sprung and animals are stirring at the National Trust. Families can complete the nature-themed activities and earn themselves a chocolate bunny. The hunt runs from 10am-5pm daily from Saturday, April 8 until Sunday, April 23.

4. Cast your eyes over the Southampton Castle: A Ceremony in Stone exhibition at Tudor House and Garden. The feature will explain the history of the castle through archaeology, documentary evidence, and the stone structures which survive today. It begins on Saturday and runs from 10am until 5pm this weekend.

5. Become a nature detective at Beaulieu. Organisers promise fun themed activities, so grab your magnifying glass out and get involved. The National Motor Museum is open from 10am until 5pm daily.

6. Walk the Waterfront at Weston Shore. The sponsored 20-mile walk begins the shore at 8am and will wind through Redbridge, Swaythling and St Denys. Four teams of people from different organisations will be taking part in the sponsored walk on Sunday.

7. Enjoy some music as Hafdis Huld performs at Winchester Discovery Centre. Huld is one of Iceland's best-known singers and will play in Hampshire at 7pm on Friday.

8. Try your hand at calligraphy under the watching eye of expert scribes. The workshop at Winchester Cathedral is open to beginners and will focus on studying the uncial hand. The class begins at 10am on Saturday.

9. Sit back and listen to the Romsey Singer at Romsey Abbey on Saturday. the group will be performing anthems by Weelkes, Tallis, Gibbons and Blitheman and the show begins at 7.30pm.

10. Have a few laughs courtesy of comedian Sara Pascoe, who is performing Animal at the Nuffield Theatre in Southampton. Pascoe has appeared on Mock the Week, Have I Got News for You and QI, and the show will cover topics including empathy, art, selfies and glow worms. She will appear at the theatre on Sunday evening.
