AN investigation has been launched by police after a moped was stolen from a residential street in Southampton.

The vehicle, a blue Piaggio NRG 50cc model, was taken outside a property in Belmont Road in Portswood.

Police say the theft happened between 9.20pm and 10.20pm on March 31.

The moped owner's mother said the incident has left her son "gutted" and unable to ride to college.

She added that bike is distinguishable from the amount of stickers on it.

A spokesman for Hampshire Constabulary said: "If anyone saw the moped being taken, or knows where it has ended up, please contact us on 101 quoting crime reference number 44170120527."
