ALRESFORD Town strengthened their grip on fifth spot in the Sydenhams Premier Division with a 2-1 home win over Bemerton Heath Harlequins last night.

The Magpies fell behind early in the second half, but hit back with an Aaron Blaxall header from a corner and a neat finish by Steve Hall from Craig Harding’s assist.

With just two games to go, both at home, the Magpies are four points adrift of fourth-placed Sholing and four clear of Horndean in sixth.

That is quite some achievement considering they were down in the relegation zone in October.

Manager Richard Luffman tweeted: "Great win for the club again. We don't stop and that's a rare quality."

Alresford host relegation-battling Cowes Sports on Saturday and round off the league campaign against Glenn Burnett’s Andover Town on April 22.
