POLICE have arrested three men after a brawl in a Southampton street on Sunday.

Police were first called to Colby Street in Maybush where a punch-up had broken out.

When police arrived at the scene, three men quickly left in a car, they were later arrested in Richmond Road, Shirley.

Initial confusion about the nature of the incident had residents talking, as officers descended on the road, and three police cars and three police vans arrived in the road as officers made arrests.

Traffic was turned back around and a vehicle, was later seized by police.

A police spokeswoman has confirmed, that there were no armed police at the scene, but there was a specialist public order unit that was deployed.

A woman from Richmond Road said: “I came out to go out and they were all here, we had three police vans and three police cars and 12 officers, there were three people they had held.”

A spokeswoman for Hampshire police said: “The initial call related to an assault in Colby Street, and a number of people were involved in an altercation in the street and officers attended.

“Some men were seen in a car, and a vehicle was then stopped in Richmond Road, where police made three arrests.”

Police say a 23-year-old man, an 18-year-old man and a 40-year-old man are all in custody.

The assault happened at 12.36pm, and it is not known how many people were involved, but the spokeswoman said police had a report of a 30-year-old man from Southampton being assaulted by three people.

Two people were treated for minor injuries by paramedics and were taken to Southampton General Hospital.
