A MAN has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after an industrial accident.

Police were called to the site, a yard on the Dawkins Road Industrial Estate, Hamworthy, by the ambulance service at around 12.50pm on Tuesday.

The man, aged 33 and from Poole, was flown to Southampton General Hospital for treatment and is said to be in a serious condition.

Officers have put a cordon in place and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has been informed.

Workers in the area told the Echo they witnessed a number of ambulances in the area, and that police quickly sealed off a lane leading to the yard at the rear of the industrial estate soon afterwards.

While the Echo was at the scene, a number of items were bagged up and taken away by police. The Daily Echo understands specialist forensics officers will also be attending the yard.

A spokesman for HSE said: “We are aware of the incident and we are currently undertaking a joint investigation with Dorset Police.”
