SOUTHAMPTON'S sitting MPs have both confirmed they will fight for their seats in the 2017 general election.
Prime Minister Theresa May shocked Westminster when she announced earlier this week that a snap election will take place on June 8.
Royston Smith, MP for Southampton Itchen, and Alan Whitehead, MP for Southampton Test, will both campaign for their seats over the next two months.
Mr Smith said: "I am delighted and honoured to have been chosen again to stand in the general election.
"It is a huge privilege to represent your home city in Parliament and I have thoroughly enjoyed the last two years.
"I hope to be returned on June 8th to once again represent the people of Southampton Itchen."
Meanwhile Mr Whitehead will run for his seat, which is the only Labour-held constituency in Hampshire.
