A HAMPSHIRE family are urging bikers to take part in a charity ride-out in memory of a popular teenage motorcyclist killed two years ago.

The mother of Nick Brisland, 19, is organising the ride-out in memory of her son, who was killed when his motorcycle was in a collision with a car and taxi on Spring Road, Sholing, Southampton.

The ride-out tomorrow will be the third in Nick’s memory and although the first event saw hundreds of bikers turn out, Nick’s mother Maria says that numbers dwindled last year.

“The first year there were more than 300 bikers, last year we saw a lot less, approximately 50, this year I really hope that the whole biking community will come out and support.

“The ride-outs are a way for us to get together and support each other as well as remembering my son.

“I also think that if people see lots of bikes they will realise someone has died and think about road safety more,” said the mother of three.

She now hopes that the Southampton motorbike community will unite to raise money for the Red Lipstick Foundation, a charity who have supported the family since Nick’s death.

The mother, from Weston, said: “I want as many people to turn up as possible, what I love most about the biking community is that we are like a family.”

Maria has had car stickers and wristbands made, which will be sold at the ride-out for £2.

To participate in the ride-out, Maria is asking riders to donate £2 and all of the money raised will go to the charity, the Red Lipstick Foundation.

The charity offers support to families who have been affected by suicide or sudden death.

“I’m sure that Nick would be proud of what we are doing in his memory. If he was watching, he would make some sort of silly joke, but he would be really proud,” said Maria.

The event will begin at 11am from Hedge End McDonald’s, where Nick was a manager.

The riders will then travel down to Portsdown Hill near Portsmouth sporting orange ribbons, which was Nick’s favourite colour.
