A ‘BOUNCE-A-THON’ to raise money for the cancer ward at Southampton General Hospital will take place today.

The event has been organised by fitness instructor Tracy Rigney in memory of her grandmother, Val, and she hopes to raise £2,000.

Two years ago Val, a Saints season ticket holder, was diagnosed with lung cancer and died in the early part of this year.

Tracey described her granddaughter as larger a than life character.

Now 37-year-old Tracy, who founded Fitness Fairy, wants to raise money for the ward that helped to take care of her nan.

“The staff on the cancer ward were so amazing,” said Tracy.

“It is terrible that they do not have all of the equipment that they need, I asked them for a shopping list but is was too difficult because everything needed to be approved.

“I just want to raise as much money as I can to help them.

“When my grandmother died, her favourite nurse was visibly upset, they must see people pass away every day but they all liked her so much.”

The four-hour bounce-a-thon will feature teams of four adults or six children.

“My nan would have loved to take part, I brought her a zumba bell belt and she wore it around the elderly residential area where she lived in Lordswood, shaking her hips at the other residents.”

The event will take place at Woodlands Community College from 2pm until 6pm.
