IT’S the tear-jerking hit TV programme filmed in a Hampshire hospital.

Now, staff, parents and children who starred in Channel Four’s One Born Every Minute are set to return to the nation’s screens this week.

Spin-off programme I Was Born on One Born will give viewers the chance to follow the stories of six babies who were born at Southampton’s Princess Anne Hospital in 2009 and 2010 and who are now at primary school.

The pioneering first series, which was filmed over the course of a month at the Princess Anne Hospital, was named best factual series at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) awards.

It was followed by special broadcast One Born at Christmas, which featured a host of festive births in the city and saw a team of Southampton midwives deliver the alternative Christmas message, before the launch of the BAFTA-nominated second series in 2011.

The new All 4 short series will follow the stories of Finley and Kyron from series one, and Benjamin, twins Rosie and Ruby, Martin and Polly from series two.

Maria Dore, head of midwifery at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Being part of this groundbreaking project was a fascinating and extremely positive experience for everyone involved and we all look back on it with very fond memories.

“The feedback we received in Southampton alone showed that viewers really valued the opportunity to witness real birth experiences, which was something that had never been given such a detailed and proper platform in the media before.

“We are now really excited for the launch of this new series as it will give our staff and viewers the chance to see some familiar faces and see how these families have progressed following their births with us.”

A spokesperson for Dragonfly Film and Television Productions, the production company behind One Born, said: “In this new series of shorts, children will have the rare opportunity to witness how they came into the world as they watch their censored One Born footage with their proud and sometimes emotional

family.

“Now at primary school, they will gain an understanding of what their parents went through to get them there and behold their first moments into the world.”

The show will be available to view on All 4, Channel 4’s on demand channel, from today.
