THREE Team Solent players have a special incentive to complete a hat-trick of Southampton Senior Cup victories at St Mary’s tomorrow evening (Wednesday, 7.30pm).

Jesse Waller-Lassen, Patrick Nolan and Tobi Adekunle are all finishing their degree courses at Southampton Solent University, possibly marking the end of their time with the club.

The Student outfit have been the class act of the competition for the last two seasons, edging Hamble Club 3-2 in the 2015 final before steamrollering Blackfield & Langley 5-0 last term.

Tomorrow they face a Sholing side looking to lift a second piece of silverware in three days having yesterday triumphed 2-1 in the Sydenhams League Cup against Baffins Milton Rovers at AFC Portchester.

With manager James Taylor currently suspended from all football activities while he awaits a hearing into a misconduct charge, Team Solent will be in the trusty hands of Mick Marsh – former assistant to Dave Diaper at Sholing – and Kevin Braybrook.

Marsh said: “My Sholing days were a long time ago now and we've moved on, but congratulations to them for yesterday's win on what must have been a difficult pitch.

“The surface tomorrow will be very different to the Wessex arena.

“The ball will travel truly at St Mary’s and hopefully we’ll see a nice game of football rather than just punting it up the pitch.

“The surface will suit our style of play, but Sholing will be right up for it as well.

“They knocked us out of the League Cup and beat us in the last league game of the season.”

Waller-Lassen, Team Solent’s talisman of the last three years, has been dual-signed with Southern League Salisbury of late and went on as a sub in yesterday's South & West play-off final defeat against Tiverton.

“Jesse's off coaching in the USA in the summer and what he does when he comes back is up to him,” said Marsh.

“Tomorrow's the last game for him, Tobi and Patrick from a university point of view and all three are looking to play at a higher level.

“It would be nice for them to go out on a high.”

Sholing boss Diaper, meanwhile, will have “a chat” with his players to stress the importance of maintaining high standards for 90 minutes.

They conceded in stoppage time against Baffins and Diaper said: “We’ve got to see games out.

“Team Solent will be mobile and they’ll shift the ball quickly. We’ll need to get our mental approach right.

“We’ve already played one cup final this week, but we mustn’t approach this one like we’re tired.

“We worked hard against Baffins, but we kept it sensible and didn’t over-commit."

Team Solent have a full squad available, while Sholing welcome back yesterday's cup-tied duo Micky Hubbard and Luke Dempsey.
