For almost 10 years they have been part of the city’s music and arts scene, playing hundreds of gigs and raising over £20,000 for charity.

Now local music group Southampton Ukulele Jam are the subject of a new documentary, set to premier with a special red carpet event at art house cinema Harbour Lights and to be opened by city council's head of culture Councillor Satvir Kaur and Director of Culture James Gough.

The film has been made by south coast director Amiee Lupin, who set up a crowdfunding campaign to make the documentary. She said: "“I’m so pleased people will soon be able to see the documentary.” said filmmaker Amiee Lupin “At it’s core, it’s the story of a community of friends and what people can achieve when they come together, I think that is something everyone can relate to”

Jam co-founder and lead Colin McAllister said: "With over 100 people regularly taking part in our fortnightly jams at Talking Heads, I knew that we had a great story to tell, and Amiee, the film maker we worked with, has done an amazing job of capturing the heart and soul of the jam at the various festivals and community events we play. It really has been a great experience.”

This week’s premiere will take place on May 4 and will raise funds for local charities the Society of St James and No Limits. It is one of a series of special screenings planned before the documentary is released online through their website www.southamptonukulelejam.co.uk in the coming months.
