A YOUNG woman was talked down from a Southampton bridge by emergency services.

Firefighters, ambulances and police all raced to the incident on the Redbridge Flyover on Friday evening.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: "It is a young person on a bridge who we're trying to talk off the edge.

"We were trying to help prevent anything further from happening."

The fire incident commander said: "We were called at 6.50pm to standby as support for the police and we are currently monitoring the situation."

Three people were pictured speaking to police on the bridge that links Redbridge and Totton.

The incident was cleared shortly before 10pm.
