Claude Puel will consider rotating his side as they undertake a busy finale to the Premier League season.

No sooner had Saints got off the pitch at Anfield following the goalless draw with Liverpool then attentions were turning to Wednesday’s game against Arsenal at St Mary’s.

After that Saints face a trip to Middlesbrough before back-to-back home fixtures to round off the campaign against Manchester United and Stoke, as they play five games in the final fortnight of the season.

Puel started the campaign regularly rotating when the fixture burden was at its peak, and admitted he will consider it again, particularly after the amount of work his team put in to contain Liverpool.

He said: “We will see. I don’t know the recovery with every player. We will see Monday and Tuesday.

“It was a strong effort, with good runs, and it was a fantastic game with a very good draw and a point. Very difficult but I am satisfied against this team because we deny them good position to shoot and it was important to keep this discipline and I am satisfied also the save of Fraser.

“He maintained the team with a draw in the game and it’s a good reward for all the team and I think it’s a good draw.”

Puel felt it was a case of justice done as Fraser Forster saved James Milner’s second half penalty in what proved to be the crucial action of the 0-0 draw at Anfield.

Referee Bobby Madley awarded the spot kick for a supposed handball against Jack Stephens.

Though there was little dispute that the ball struck the arm of the young defender, Saints felt hard done by given his proximity to Divock Origi who had flicked on a Lucas cross.

Liverpool were frustrated by what they believed were deliberate Saints tactics to try and slow down the taking of the kick to increase the pressure on Milner.

But Puel refused to be drawn on the issue, and instead pointed out his belief that Simon Mignolet was lucky to escape without punishment after suggestions he handled the ball outside his area towards the end of the game.

“I think it’s harsh this penalty because Jack turns and the ball falls on his arm but it was unintentional I think,” insisted Puel.

“It was too harsh to concede a goal against a penalty and it was important this save for Fraser but also all the squad because for me it was not a penalty.

“On the other side you can have a sending off for Mignolet when he touches the ball outside his box.

“I think it’s a good draw and a normal result.”
