A HAMPSHIRE football team have been left in a state of shock after burglars broke into the team’s shed and stole hundreds of pounds worth of football equipment.

Stubbington Youth FC now have to foot a hefty bill after their footballs were punctured, slalom poles were smashed and storage locker doors kicked in.

Club officials first found the damage at their storage unit at Stubbington Recreation Ground on the morning of Tuesday, May 2 after police officers on patrol in the area discovered the damage at approximately 3am in the morning.

It is thought that the vandals broke through the wrec’s main door and then attempted to get through into a second inner room unsuccessfully.

Vice chairman Andrew Griffin described the incident as ‘shocking’ and overwhelming’, adding: “I can’t understand why someone would do this.

“All the equipment was put back in the Rec on Sunday Night but upon our return on Tuesday we discovered that a lot of equipment had been taken."

Andrew said he wasn’t sure how much the replacement equipment is expected to take a huge chunk out of their finances.
