Four people were arrested after armed police stormed a Southampton road on Tuesday evening.

Officers were called to Antelope Park, Bursledon Road, at 4.24pm on Tuesday where a man was seen being forced into a vehicle.

Police then rushed to Acacia Road in Southampton, where one resident claimed 'police with guns and Tasers' marched into a house.

After originally saying no armed police were present, Hampshire Constabulary have now confirmed armed officers were deployed, but they say it was 'not in an armed capacity'.

Bystanders watched on as officers blocked off the road in Bitterne just before 7pm.

Richard, 29, who lives nearby, said: "There were 10, maybe 12 officers last night and I saw the whole thing. I couldn't believe what I was seeing in front of me.

"I have heard they were arrested for kidnapping but I don't know for certain, but two people were taken away and a younger one was strapped up and put in a police car.

"They stormed the whole road and there were loads of kids watching on and it seemed to rile everyone up, people were shouting that police had assaulted one of them."

After originally saying three people had been arrested on suspicion on kidnap, Hampshire police have now confirmed that four were arrested; three men - aged 18, 18 and 25 years old - were arrested on suspicion of kidnap, while a 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer.

The boy has since been charged and has been released, and will appear at West Hampshire Youth Court on June 5.
