BASINGSTOKE Town fans have been buoyed by news that the club are remaining at the Camrose Ground for at least one more season.

Following the announcement that club chairman and owner Rafi Razzak was leaving, a review had found that staying at the Camrose – their home since 1945 - was not “economically or practically feasible."

An Interim Management Group (IGM) had been weighing up the options of selling the Camrose for redevelopment and setting up home elsewhere.

A season’s groundshare with Farnborough had been provisionally agreed for next season and exploratory talks were also held with Whitchurch United about a potential long-term groundshare arrangement at an upgraded Longmeadow.

However, Basingstoke's chief executive David Knight has today confirmed that - for the time being, at least -  the north Hampshire club are staying put.

His statement on the official BTFC website said: “A lot of hard work has been going on behind the scenes as the club prepares for next season and the future.

“While much work has still to be done, I am pleased to announce that the club will continue to play at the Camrose.

“The club wishes to place on record its thanks to Farnborough for their kind offer of a groundshare for next season and we appreciate their patience and support during the last few weeks.

“We look forward to meeting them this season following their promotion to the Southern League Premier Division.”

A supporters’ forum has been provisionally set for May 23 (7pm) in the clubhouse.

Under the management of Terry Brown, Basingstoke finished 12th in the league last season and lifted the Hampshire FA Senior Cup at St Mary's, beating AFC Bournemouth's Under-21s on penalties.
