One of Southampton’s most famous felines has been reunited with his owner – four days after fears he had been kidnapped.

Sheldon Lee Cooper-Webster is a much-loved member of his community in Millbrook and has featured in the Daily Echo and has 1,000 friends on social media.

After fearing for his future, owner Anne Webster has finally been reunited with her beloved cat.

The black and white cat, who is believed to be three, was seen being carried away from Tanners Brook Junior School, where Sheldon is a regular visitor, on Monday afternoon.

After days of searching and 2,000 shares on social media, Sheldon was found less than a mile away from his workplace of B&M Bargains, where he frequently visits.

Anne, 46, said: “I think he was working his way back to us. We don’t really have any answers as to what happened, he was found on Stanton Road by the allotments, just sat there. He was a bit wet and soggy!”

“He was spotted by someone who used to go to school with my daughters, and then my daughter Elisha happened to be driving down the road and they flagged her down.”

Anne says she couldn’t believe the online response after Sheldon went missing and the reaction after he was found on Thursday evening.

Despite Sheldon being relocated, police insist that there remains no evidence to suggest a crime had been committed.

Anne said: “I’m elated that he’s back and I will forever be indebted to everyone online for sharing his story. We won’t know what really happened but at least he’s safe and sound now.

“The post had 2,000 shares when missing which was phenomenal. The first police officer I spoke to was very sympathetic and I tried to explain that he had a bit of a following.”

Sheldon has fans as far as China and was made head of the B&M Bargains store in Millbrook after repeatedly visiting the shop.

He used to sleep on the doorsteps of Southampton until his owner gave him a home.
