MUSICIANS from a Southampton college will perform at a national event.

Two Groups from Richard Taunton Sixth Form College are set to wow the crowds at Music for Youth’s National Festival.

It comes after the Hill Lane college hosted the festival’s Southampton edition, for the 23rd running, when 13 hools and groups from the area gave performances that spanned almost every genre of music. The groups were competing for a place at Music for Youth’s National Festival where they will join up to 10,000 young musicians. Over five days the talented youngsters will go to workshops and collaborate with professional artists.

A further selection of groups from the National Festival will then take part in the Music for Youth Proms in November at the Royal Albert Hall,

Richard Taunton music teacher Sam Adams, said: "We are thrilled that two of our groups have been selected to attend the National Festival, especially Jazz Band who qualified for the second time.

"Events of this kind give lovers of music the chance to feel part of something bigger, showcase their talent, and connect with other young budding musicians across the country. They also offer a great platform for aspiring musicians and the feedback they receive from the Music for Youth mentors really help to shape and improve their performances."
