Police have launched an attempted kidnap and murder investigation and a man suffered life-changing injuries after a car smashed into a pole.
The silver Vauxhall Astra crashed into a stationary car before hitting a telegraph pole on Wide Lane in Eastleigh (opposite the former Ford factory) between 9.45pm and 10pm on Thursday night.
Officers arrested two men on suspicion of attempted murder and attempted kidnapping charges, before releasing the pair under investigation.
A 22-year-old man from Southampton was arrested as well as a 21-year-old man from London, who was also arrested on suspicion of driving without a licence, driving without insurance and driving under the influence of a controlled drug.
Both men have been released from custody but remain under investigation.
Officers think one of the men left the scene near to the M27 bridge at junction 5 after the crash.
A 23-year-old man in currently in hospital after suffering life-changing injuries. He is in a critical condition after being found lying outside of the vehicle.
