SEVERAL pets have been killed after a fire gutted a Southampton home.

Two crews from St Mary’s and one from Redbridge fire stations were called to Malmesbury Road at 8.50pm last night as a blaze rip through the ground floor of the terrace house.

They battled the blaze for just over an hour and prevented it spreading to neighbouring properties.

However, this morning a Hampshire Fire and Rescue spokesman confirmed the fatalities.

“Sadly three dogs and two cats were all found deceased as a result of the incident,” he said.

It is unconfirmed if anyone else was injured or was at the house at the time of the incident.

The cause of the blaze is also not yet known but the spokesman added the fire started in the kitchen/diner area.

An investigation will now be carried out.
