After 17 months of waiting, a Hampshire charity had a world record attempt confirmed on Thursday.

Countess Mountbatten Hospice, the end of life care charity, attempted the record of the largest gathering of princesses, with 419 joining the cause.

Having joined with the Mayflower Theatre to organise the feat on December 19 2015, the record has now been officially confirmed by the Guinness World Records.

Pam Bates, fundraising manager said: "We're absolutely delighted to have won it and of course it's being hung with pride of place in the office.

"We were so grateful to everyone who came along, whether it was fathers with their children or mums too. There were a lot of songs on that day, and if you weren't in a dress, you weren't allowed in! Anyone who helped us can buy their own participation certificate and everyone deserves it."

Guinness World Records said that because video evidence wasn't supplied, it made accurately judging the success of the attempt 'very difficult', but said they were delighted the event was successful.
