The home of Southampton FC is used to seeing professional competitors battling it out in the Premier League and Europe.

Now, the St Mary’s pitch will be graced by a host of celebrities, pop stars and sporting heroes, with former legends lacing up their boots to raise money for charity.

Sellebrity Soccer will descend on the home of the Saints on Friday in aid of three charities, including the Saints Foundation, the charitable leg of the football club.

Former players include Wayne Bridge, James Beattie and Francis Benali, who will join stars from TV music and sport including former England cricket captain Michael Vaughan, actor Jake Wood and singer Sam Bailey next month.

Kevin Cooper, joint founder of Sellebrity Soccer said: “We’re really excited to be hosting Sellebrity Soccer for the first time at Southampton FC.

“We’re delighted to be playing at St Mary’s and raising money for some fantastic charities – we’re hoping to make this the biggest one yet!”

Profits from the ticket sales will go towards supporting the work of the Saints Foundation, who aim to deliver change and equality for young people and vulnerable adults across Southampton and the surrounding areas.

Former Saints star Wayne Bridge said: "I think it's fantastic for the club and the city to be a part of this event and supporting the charities, it should be a really good evening.

"Playing for Southampton was a boyhood dream of mine, it's always been a great family club and they have always been great at giving back to the community. Saints do some fantastic work and give people opportunities they wouldn't normally get."

As well as the Saints Foundation, proceeds will also go towards Global Radio’s make some noise charity, which aims to give young disadvantaged children support across the UK.

Just 4 Children, Sonny’s dream to walk, is also set to benefit from the ticket sales. Sonny, two, from West Sussex was born premature and needs £80,000 for an operation to help him walk.

The match kicks off on May 26, with doors opening at 6pm ahead of a 7.30pm kick off.

Tickets are priced at £10 for adults and £5 for children, with VIP tickets, including a meet and greet with the players, at £35.
