UBER has been cooking up something new – a food delivery app which launches in Southampton today.

From 11am, UberEATS will be providing super-fast food delivery to hungry customers in the city at the touch of a button.

The app will allow Southampton’s army of Uber users to order anything from burgers to brownies or curries to cakes in just a couple of clicks.

The company has teamed up with more than 40 restaurants in Southampton, including Benny’s Burgertown, CXO Bar & Bistro and Persian Paradise, to go into direct competition with Deliveroo.

First launched in Toronto in late 2015 and in London a year ago, Southampton is the eighth UK city to benefit from UberEATS.

A fleet of motorcycle drivers and bike riders will collect your late-night snack, post-workout boost or nutritious family dinner from the restaurant of your choice and deliver it straight to your door, office, the park or wherever you choose to dine seven days a week from 11am to 11pm.

It’s currently just central Southampton included, roughly spanning Highfield to Ocean Village and Shirley to Bitterne, but the area is due to expand and more restaurants will be added.

Mathieu Proust, general manager of UberEATS, said: “We’re hugely excited to be launching in Southampton today.

“People in the city can now use UberEATS to get the food they want as conveniently as booking a car.

“The app makes it easy to get the food you want with no minimum basket and, just like Uber, the order is charged to your card so there’s no need for cash.”

Nadeem Butt, from Benny’s in Northam Road, added: “We pride ourselves in the authentic flavours of our carefully selected ingredients to create a memorable experience for burger lovers, and now with UberEATS, they can enjoy the same experience delivered right to their doorstep.”
