RESIDENTS, businesses and schools celebrated the second day of the first ever Southampton sailing week.

In a day full of events, junior school pupils took part in a taster session on the water, while organisations fought to win the first ever businesses south cup.

Thirty pupils from Mount Pleasant Junior School were among the first to try their hand on the water as one of six taster sessions being held this week.

The year-five pupils experienced sailing for the first time in partnership with Active Nation and Park Lives.

Derryn Robinson, a year-five teacher said: “The children were very excited and it was a wonderful opportunity. We’ll certainly be doing it again if we’re offered the chance. It was all organised very well and I was impressed with the staff and Active Nation.”

Other activities taking place included a luxury yacht charter and the Business South Cup, which was won by the Hampshire Chamber Of Commerce.

In a closely fought race, they beat off competition from ferry firm Red Funnel and accountants Grant Thornton to take home the trophy.
