Artists and art lovers had a special treat with the twelfth annual Arches Open Studios event.

More than 400 visitors passed through the Captain's Place studios, which host 22 artists in the converted arches underneath Central Bridge.

With free activities including ceramics workshops, yoga classes, sculpture demos, music, knitting workshops, installations and a "death chat café," weekend event also included a talk with new director of the John Hansard Gallery, Woodrow Kernohan and independent visual arts producer, Katie Daley Yates.

There was also Southampton's first ever Art Book Fair, with stall holders including Book Case Press, K6 Gallery, WSA Publisher Hub, Solent Press, John Hansard Gallery, Cakes & Ale Press, Double Butted, Liz Jones, Patryk Wirenski, and Solent Illustration.

Refreshments were provided by craft ale specialists The Butcher’s Hook and Frisky Avocado.

Arches Studios are run by a space arts, who also manage the Sorting Office in Eastleigh - which next month sees the returns of their annual Summer Open Studios on June 17 and 18.
