Police are searching for a group of men who attacked and robbed another man in the early hours of the morning.

A car pulled alongside the 31-year-old victim on Canute Road, Southampton, between 3am and 3.30 am on Wednesday morning when three men got out and assaulted him.

The man's phone was stolen in the attack, which took place just after the junction with Neptune Close.

The car was believed to have come from the direction of the city centre and drove down Canute Road, turning right into Ocean Village.

The car was described as a new-style silver Hyundi, either an i20 or i30 model, with damage to the offside bodywork with a ratchet strap securing a door.

The driver has been described as a white man, aged around 30-years-old with a slim to medium build. He had 1in-long, mousey brown hair and was wearing a navy blue tracksuit.

The man in the passenger seat has been described as a black and of medium build, aged in his mid 20s and completely bald. He was said to be wearing a dark coloured tracksuit.

The man seated in the back has been described as black and of medium build and about 25-years-old. He was said to be wearing a dark coloured tracksuit and a black baseball cap.

DC Laura Hardy, from the Western Investigation Team, said: “I appealing directly to anyone who witnessed this incident or saw this vehicle before or after the robbery.

“The car is quite distinctive. I believe someone may know who this belongs to and may recognise the description the occupants.
