A MAN was arrested following an incident at a Hampshire hospital in which a member of staff was threatened.

Police were alerted after a disruptive visitor to the Princess Anne Hospital in Coxford Road, Southampton, became abusive towards one of the employees.

The incident occurred on Wednesday just before 2.30pm.

A University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust spokesman said: “Our security team were informed of an incident during which a disruptive visitor became abusive and threatening towards a member of staff.

“The matter was resolved and reported to Hampshire police.

“Any form of aggression towards our staff is unacceptable and we work very closely with our police colleagues to ensure that, where appropriate, action is taken when such instances occur.”

The spokesman said no weapon was involved and no-one was hurt.

A police spokesman added: "We were called to the hospital to a report of a man causing a disturbance. When staff asked him to leave he became threatening.

"A 45-year-old man from Southampton was later arrested at his home on suspicion of a public order offence. He remains in police custody at this time."
