ROCK legend Rod Stewart brought the curtain down at the sensational grand finale of the Isle of Wight Festival 2017.

The British rock-star put on a show-stopping performance on the main stage at Seaclose Park captivating the 50,000-strong crowd in a terrific end to the four-day musical extravaganza.

Rod said: “I have been very lucky to have played many of the world’s finest venues and festival- but never played the legendary Isle of Wight Festival.”

Festival promoter John Giddings said: “I’ve wanted Rod Stewart to play at the festival for a number of years - he’s an incredible icon with a career that spanned over five decades, so it is impossible to not be a fan.”

Although the weekend was forecasted for wet weather, the sun shone over the festival for three of the four days, with a little bit of rain and wind on Thursday evening.

Crowds donned Scottish kilts and wigs in tribute to Rod’s Scottish ancestry. Others opted to dress up as artists who have previously performed at the festival including David Bowie and Queen.

On Saturday night revellers held up glow sticks to light up the night to Stand Up to Cancer, the festival’s official charity partner.

Southampton Group FooR performed on the Big Top stage and was met by huge enthusiasm by festival-goers. FooR mixed this year’s Pure Garage album, which is available in stores and online now.

The group is led by ex-Testwood School pupil Gavin Foord, alongside pals Paul Atkinson, David Wiggins & John Pitts.

Arcade Fire headlined on Saturday with a performance that divided attendees with some people taking to social media to voice their disappointment in the headline act.

Texas, The Kooks, Example and Zara Larsson are also among the stars who were on Saturday, with former Saints footballer Peter Crouch and his wife Abbey Clancy seen cutting shapes on dancefloor.

On Friday David Guetta stole the show with his incredible DJ set. The artist played a mix of R&B and house. Revellers danced and screamed throughout his set, which lasted 90 minutes. The international DJ had fireworks, fire projectors, lasers and a confetti cannon.

Thursday was headlined by Razorlight, who put on a great performance.
