A NEW photographic shop with an old name has raised its shutters at Southampton's Westquay shopping centre.

Today saw a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the first day of the new Jessops store.

The shop will have a number of offers running during its opening weekend.

Today, Alex Choi from Manfrotto is in the store offering a free stylish PIXL Tripod to the first five customers who drop in to find Alex, quoting the key phrase: “Manfrotto imagine more".

Store manager, Richard Timmonds comments: "We are delighted to open our new store in the heart of Southampton where shoppers can experiment with the latest cameras and receive specialist advice from a team of passionate photographers."

The Westquay opening is Jessops' 57th since 2013 since the business was snapped up out of administration by Dragon's Den tycoon Peter Jones.

The company was originally founded in Leicester in 1935 by Frank Jessop and by 2001 there were more than 200 stores, making it the UK’s biggest photographic and camera retailer.

However, the company went into administration in January 2013 which forced the closure of all its 187 shops, including the store in East Street, Southampton.
