Fire crews had to race to a Southampton house fire last night.

A downstairs living room suffered severe smoke damage at a detached house in Exeter Road just after 10pm.

With dogs still in the property, crews from Hightown and St Mary’s tackled the flames

No-one was hurt, with crews spending just over an hour at the fire.

It comes days after a Southampton man was killed in a flat blaze after a neighbour was awoken by embers falling from his ceiling.

A man and the neighbour were both taken to hospital, but the man died from his injuries.
