A TEAM from HMS Collingwood’s Underwater Warfare Training Element (UWTE) cycled from London to Brighton on what was then the hottest day of the year.

The “Warspite Warriors”, aka Chief Petty Officer (CPO) Robbie Doyle, CPO Adam Hearn, Petty Officer (PO) Steven Alford, PO Timothy Mallett and CPO Stuart Flack took part in the punishing ride on Sunday to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation.

After spending nearly five and a quarter hours in the saddle and consuming 30 litres of water, three packets of jelly babies and numerous energy bars the team reached Brighton where then finishing mile was lined with somewhere in the region of 10,000 spectators clapping and cheering every single participant on to the finish.

Warspite Warriors have managed to raise in excess of £500 with that amount still climbing.

PO Timothy Mallett commented: “Our team had a real mix of experience in the saddle but pulled together to complete the ride in a very respectable time. We had a great day overall and received an enormous amount of support.”
