A SOUTHAMPTON school is closed today after a break-in overnight.

The incident at Oasis Academy Lordshill has prompted the school to tell pupils to stay away.

Phil Humphreys, executive principal of Oasis Academy Lord's Hill, said: "I can confirm that there was a break-in at the Academy last night that has caused some damage to our facilities.

"In order for the police to conduct their investigation and to repair the damage caused,  we have regrettably had to close the Academy today, with the exception of those Year 11 students who are sitting external examinations.

“We look forward to welcoming all students back at the normal time tomorrow morning.”

A statement on its Facebook page says: "The academy will be open as usual [on Thursday].

"Closed today due to a break-in overnight.

"Year 11 exams only today".

Southampton City Council has confirmed that the school is closed due to damage to buildings.
