TOWER blocks in Southampton are not clad in combustible material, it has been confirmed.
It comes after reports that around 600 high rise buildings across the UK are using cladding similar to Grenfell Tower – the London block that went up in flames just last week claiming the lives of 79 residents and injuring many others.
Prime Minister Theresa May demanded that all local authorities report to central government the types of cladding used on blocks in their area.
They then had to send samples so the government could check on the cladding’s safety.
A spokesperson for Southampton City Council said: “Southampton City Council has advised Government that following its own investigations it has no combustible cladding materials or cladding similar to that used on Grenfell Tower on its tower blocks.”
