ARMED police are hunting a man and a woman has been left in hospital after an early-morning aggravated burglary.

Officers rushed to Rowlands Walk, Townhill Park, at about 4am on Friday after reports that a man had entered a house and assaulted a person before fleeing in a silver Ford estate car. It is believed he had a weapon at the time.

A number of raids were carried out by armed police across the city, including at Abercrombie Gardens, to try and track down the man, but police say no arrests have been made.

A woman in her 20s is being treated in hospital for injuries to her face and arm.

Hampshire Constabulary says it is thought to be an isolated incident.

Residents at Abercrombie Gardens, Lordshill, said police armed with machine guns and shields descended on the area early on Friday morning.

A resident, who gave their name only as Patrick, said: "I pulled in about half past seven and there were about half a dozen cops, actual officers round here.

"They were all armed with machine guns and shields, like riot shields.

"I didn't see them come out with anything though."
