POLICE have released E-fits of two men they would like to identify in connection with a distraction burglary in Southampton.

A woman in her 80s answered her door in Shirley to two men who offered to carry out guttering improvement work between 2.30pm and 3.30pm on Friday, June 2.

Whilst one of the men talked to the woman about the work, the other man searched her home. Both men left having stolen a quantity of jewellery including gold rings, chains and bracelets.

Police are asking for anyone who can help them identify the two men in the E-fits, or who may have been approached by these men recently.

Anyone with information should contact the police on 101, quoting 44170208961, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Distraction burglars may try to trick their way into homes by posing as officials or by asking for help, such as to use your toilet or phone.

Hampshire Constabulary advises that residents should not open the door to someone you don't know or aren't expecting, and to ask for identification.

They add that the public should use a door chain when opening the door and make sure the back door is locked before answering.
