A MAN was rushed to hospital with serious facial injuries after an incident in a Southampton park.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Blechynden Terrace and discovered the man.

A resident said that she saw a person who was beaten up "quite badly".

A 'scientific services department' van was spotted at the scene while officers searched the park.

A person who lives in the area and did not want to be named said: "I have two friends who live in the park and I know one of them had an argument last night.

"We tried to ring him last night but he didn't answer the phone and his girlfriend spoke to him at around 10pm but she hasn't heard from him since.

"We don't know if he is involved."

A Hampshire Constabulary spokeswoman told the Daily Echo that investigations are ongoing and an area of the road was cordoned off following the incident, which happened at about 10pm on Wednesday.

A South Central Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called at 9.55pm regarding an approximately 50-year-old man who had sustained facial injuries as the result of a possible assault on the corner of Blechynden Terrace and West Park.

"We sent an ambulance to the scene and he was taken to University Hospital Southampton for further treatment."
